Opera has entered the AI-powered browsing market with the launch of Neon. This new browser is designed to function more like a digital assistant than a traditional search tool. Neon can perform tasks inside web pages, such as filling out forms, comparing data across sites, or even drafting code. This makes browsing more interactive and productive.
Its standout feature, βNeon Doβ, lets the browser navigate pages on a userβs behalf. This occurs without sending data to external cloud services. Opera is positioning Neon as a subscription product for power users. Early access is now available, with a wider rollout planned for the coming months.
The browser also introduces βTasksβ, which create AI workspaces to analyze multiple sources. Additionally, it offers βCardsβ, reusable prompt templates to automate repetitive actions. Opera emphasized that all actions are handled locally, providing users with more control and privacy.
The launch comes as competition heats up. Perplexityβs Comet, Arcβs Dia, and an expected OpenAI Chromium-based browser are all vying to redefine web use through agentic AI.
Opera, founded in 1995 and based in Oslo, serves over 300 million active users globally. Its US-listed shares have rallied in recent years on optimism about its growing focus on AI-driven products.
