More than 9 lakh beneficiaries got their third dose of the Covid-19 vaccine on the first day of the vaccination drive to give the ‘Precaution Dose’ to the healthcare workers, frontline workers and people who are over 60 years of age in the country.
“On the first day of ‘Precaution Dose’ for the specified group of beneficiaries for Covid-19 vaccination, more than 9 lakh doses were given to the eligible age group,” the Union Health Ministry said in a statement. “Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the government has pledged to provide additional safety from coronavirus to healthcare and frontline workers,” the ministry said on Twitter.

The CoWIN portal on the first day sent over 1 crore reminders messages to the beneficiaries to receive the precaution dose. The appointments for the precaution dose was started on Saturday on the CoWIN portal. The Health Ministry had announced that there would be no need to register the ‘Precaution Dose’.
