The Indian stock market benchmark indices, BSE Sensex and Nifty 50, are set to open higher on Monday, tracking an overnight global market rally driven by renewed optimism over US–Iran peace talks.

Asian markets traded higher, while the US stock market closed last week on a strong note, with the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite ending at record highs.

However, on Friday, the Indian stock market fell sharply as surging crude oil prices and escalating US–Iran tensions in the Middle East weighed on investor sentiment.

Gift Nifty

Gift Nifty was trading near 24,108, around 185 points higher than the previous Nifty futures close, hinting at a positive start for Indian markets.

The US stock market closed higher on Friday, with the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite finishing at record highs, as optimism around potential US–Iran peace talks boosted investor sentiment. 

• The Dow Jones Industrial Average slipped by 79.61 points (0.16%) to close at 49,230.71.
• S&P 500 up by 56.68 points (0.80%), ending at 7,165.08.
• The Nasdaq Composite was higher by 398.09 points (1.63%), finishing at 24,836.60.

Crude Oil Prices

• Brent crude gained by 2.05% to $107.49/barrel
• US West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude was trading 1.88% higher at $96.17/barrel

Overnight Major Global Events Driving Sentiment

1. US–Iran War: Iran, through Pakistani mediators, presented a new proposal to the United States to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and end the war, while deferring nuclear negotiations to a later stage. The move comes after earlier talks in Pakistan collapsed, signalling a renewed diplomatic effort focused on de-escalation first.
