Petrol, Diesel Prices Rises 16 Times in May

State-run oil marketing companies (OMCs) have hiked petrol and diesel prices on Monday after a day’s gap. Petrol price hiked by roughly 29 paise while diesel has hiked by 25 to 26 paise. Both petrol and diesel are selling at very high prices in different states of the country. Data from the Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) said that the price of petrol in Delhi has crossed Rs 94 per litre and diesel is now over Rs 85 per litre.

Petrol price has also crossed Rs 94 per litre for the first time in Kolkata after the fresh hike. It has to be noted that fuel prices have hiked 16 times in May. Petrol price has been hiked by at least Rs 3.30 per litre while diesel rates have hiked by Rs 3.89 per litre. Meanwhile, petrol price in Mumbai has increased to Rs 100.47 per litre and a litre of diesel costs Rs 92.45 after Monday’s hike.

The sharp rise in fuel prices has become a major worry for citizens and many have shown disappointment after the latest round of fuel price hikes. It is concerning because petrol now costs over Rs 100 in several districts and more cities may see the triple-digit price soon if OMCs continue to hike rates this rapidly.
