PhysicsWallah shares jumped up to 4.6% on August 26 after a Rs 550 crore block deal hit the counter in early trade.
The stock touched a day’s high of Rs 126.98 against a previous close of Rs 121.35, before settling into a more modest gain as the session progressed.
The move came on the back of heavy volumes in the block deal window, a sign that big investors were quietly repositioning even as retail traders were still checking their morning notifications.
Here’s what actually happened. In the NSE’s morning block deal session, which runs between 8:45 am and 9:00 am, a total of 4,66,98,120 shares of PhysicsWallah changed hands. That works out to roughly 1.6% of the company’s total equity, valued at Rs 549.73 crore.
The identities of the buyer and seller haven’t been disclosed yet, which is fairly typical for these transactions in the first few hours. As of the June quarter, promoter entities held 71% of the company, with the remaining 29% split among public shareholders.
This isn’t the only recent development at the edtech company. Just last month, PhysicsWallah’s board cleared the acquisition of an additional 11% stake in Guiding Light Education Technologies, the firm behind the Sarrthi IAS brand, for Rs 71.81 crore.
That deal traces back to a share purchase agreement signed in September 2025, under which PhysicsWallah plans to build its stake in Sarrthi IAS up to 85% across six tranches between FY26 and FY31.
On the earnings side, the company’s consolidated net loss narrowed sharply to Rs 77.6 crore from Rs 120.5 crore a year earlier, while revenue rose to Rs 1,054 crore from Rs 847.1 crore, even though EBITDA slipped to Rs 56.9 crore from Rs 76.3 crore.
As of 11:30 am on Wednesday, PhysicsWallah shares were trading at Rs 125.40 on the NSE, up 3.34% for the day. The stock remains well below its 52-week high of Rs 161.99 hit last November, though comfortably above its 52-week low of Rs 77.72 touched in early March.
