PM Modi Meets UAE President Sheikh Mohammed in Abu Dhabi

On Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met UAE President and Abu Dhabi ruler Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and conveyed his condolences on the demise of Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

“Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE and Ruler of Abu Dhabi, interacted with the Prime Minister at Abu Dhabi Airport in a special gesture, accompanied by senior members of the Royal Family,” Foreign Ministry spokesman Arindam Bagchi tweeted.

Modi made a brief visit after a productive G7 summit in Germany, during which he interacted with several world leaders and discussed issues to promote global well-being and prosperity.

During a meeting with Sheikh Mohammed, Modi expressed personal condolences on the passing of Sheikh Khalifa, who died on May 13 at the age of 73 after a long illness.

It was the first interaction between UAE leaders since the election of a new president of the Gulf state last month.
Modi expressed grief over the passing of Sheikh Khalifa, describing him as a great statesman and visionary leader in thriving India-Afghanistan relations.

India has declared a one-day state of mourning following the death of Sheikh Khalifa.
