PM Modi Signals Further GST Cuts to Ease Tax Burden

PM Modi
On tax relief, Modi pointed out that income up to Rs 12 lakh is now tax-free.

On 25th September, PM Narendra Modi stated that GST reforms will continue. He mentioned that the tax burden on citizens will gradually decrease as India’s economy grows. Speaking at the Uttar Pradesh International Trade Show 2025, he highlighted the country’s political stability, policy predictability, and strong public support. These factors are enabling reforms.

Modi noted that India is celebrating a β€˜GST Bachat Utsav’. Since the introduction of GST in 2017 and further reforms in 2025, the government aims to continue easing taxes. This will happen as the economy strengthens.

On tax relief, Modi pointed out that income up to Rs 12 lakh is now tax-free. Combined with GST reforms, these steps are expected to save citizens Rs 2.5 lakh crore in 2025. The government has also reduced overall taxes and curbed inflation. This has boosted incomes and savings, particularly for the poor and middle class.

Modi emphasised the focus on β€˜Make in India’, ease of doing business, and regulatory reforms. He noted that over 40,000 compliances have been removed and hundreds of minor business offences decriminalised. He encouraged traders and entrepreneurs to adopt a β€˜swadeshi first’ approach. This reflects a strong shift toward indigenous products.
