Prime Minister Narendra Modi will attend the 14th BRICS summit (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) scheduled to be hosted by Chinese President Xi Jinping via a virtual meeting on June 23.

In addition to Modi and Xi Jinping, Russian President Vladimir Putin, Brazilian President Bolsonaro and South African President Cyril Ramaphosa will also attend the meeting. China is the host country of the BRICS summit this year.

Hua Chunying, a spokeswoman for the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said that the summit’s theme is “building a high-quality BRICS partnership and opening a new era of global development.” Hua said in a statement on June 17 that BRICS leaders and leaders of “relevant” emerging market and developing countries would attend a high-level dialogue on June 24 to discuss the matter.

President Xi will also deliver a virtual keynote speech at the opening ceremony of the BRICS Business Forum on June 22.

China held several preparatory meetings on the eve of the summit, including a meeting of BRICS foreign ministers and a meeting of national security advisers.
