PM Modi to Launch Key Infrastructure Projects in Arunachal Pradesh

Arunachal Pradesh is preparing for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit on 22nd September to launch major infrastructure projects. Security has been tightened, and roads are being spruced up ahead of his arrival in Itanagar.

PM Modi will lay the foundation stone for the 1,830-km Frontier Highway, which will run parallel to the McMahon Line from Bomdila to Vijaynagar. He will also launch the second phase of the Vibrant Village Programme (VVP). This program will provide 122 border villages with all-weather roads, 4G network, TV connectivity, and on-grid power. The Centre has sanctioned Rs 2,205 crore for this phase.

The Prime Minister will also inaugurate two hydroelectric projectsβ€”the 186 MW Tato-I and the 240 MW Heoβ€”on the Yarjep River. In August, the Centre approved Rs 8,146.21 crore for the 700 MW Tato-II hydro project.

These projects are seen as crucial for national security. This is especially relevant as China continues building large dams on the lower reaches of the Brahmaputra (Yarlung Tsangpo). These projects could affect Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, and Bangladesh.

Modi recently visited Mizoram, Manipur, and Assam to inaugurate key infrastructure projects, including the Bairabi-Sairang railway line in Aizawl. His visit to Manipur was his first since the 2023 ethnic violence that claimed hundreds of lives.
