PM Modi launches railway and highway projects worth over Rs 35,000 crore in Gujarat on 8 September, including key freight corridor sections.

The biggest piece of the announcement involves the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor, or WDFC.

PM Modi will dedicate three completed sections of this corridor to the nation, covering 326 route km and built at a cost of over Rs 20,700 crore.

These sections are New Sanand (North) to New Makarpura, New Umbergaon to New Saphale, and New Saphale to New JNPT.

Once these go live, the entire freight corridor network becomes fully operational.

The new sections give direct rail access to Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority near Mumbai.

That means faster movement of import and export cargo between factories and ports, lower shipping costs, and less pressure on Mumbai’s already busy railway lines.

Alongside this, PM Modi will dedicate the Jobat-Tanda Road railway line, which connects remote tribal areas in Alirajpur district to India’s main rail network for the first time.

A new passenger train service between Vadodara and Tanda Road will also be flagged off, benefiting people across Vadodara, Chhota Udepur and Alirajpur.

On top of what’s being launched today, foundation stones will be laid for more rail work.

This includes third and fourth railway lines between Vadodara and Ratlam, a gauge conversion project, and the doubling of another rail section, together worth over Rs 9,700 crore and covering 329 km.

Road connectivity gets a boost too, with three national highway projects worth around Rs 1,780 crore, covering stretches of NH-48 and NH-53.

Beyond transport, PM Modi will also launch state government projects worth roughly Rs 2,600 crore.

These include a ring road expansion in Vadodara, a 110 MW floating solar project at Kadana Dam, housing under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, and a water supply project covering 11 villages.
