PM Modi’s Personal Website Account Hacked, Confirms Twitter

Twitter on Thursday, confirmed that an account of India’s Prime Minister website was hacked and a series of tweets from that account has been made asking its followers to donate for a relief fund through cryptocurrency.

PM Narendra Modi‘s office did not immediately respond to a comment on tweets posted from the account having username @narendramodi_in. The Twitter account mentioned on Narendra Modi’s personal website (https://www.narendramodi.in/) and the Narendra Modi mobile application has over 2.5 million followers, and his personal Twitter account which was not affected by this incident has over 61 million followers. The tweets from @narendramodi_in asked followers to donate for the PM National Relief Fund through cryptocurrency.

“We are actively investigating the situation. At this time, we are not aware of additional accounts being impacted,” said a Twitter spokeswoman in an emailed statement.

Earlier in July, Twitter accounts of some prominent personalities and companies account including Jeff Bezos (Founder and CEO of Amazon), Bill Gates (Co-founder of Microsoft), former US President Barack Obama were targeted by hackers on their Twitter accounts in an apparent Bitcoin scam. Twitter accounts of US Election 2020 candidates including Joe Biden, Kanye West, and Mike Bloomberg were hacked as well. Accounts of American Investor Warren Buffett, Elon Musk (CEO of Tesla and SpaceX), Apple Inc., Media Personality Kim Kardashian, and Uber were hacked.
