PM Narendra Modi is set to unveil a massive development push worth over Rs 1.22 lakh crore during his visit to Rajasthan’s Banswara on Thursday. This is highlighted by the Rs 42,000 crore Mahi-Banswara nuclear plant.

The 2,800 MW facility is expected to be a game-changer for the state’s energy self-sufficiency. Other key projects include a 590 MW renewable energy plant in Bikaner (Rs 8,500 crore). There are also 15.5 GW power transmission lines across several districts (Rs 13,183 crore), and 15 new drinking water supply projects across 11 districts worth Rs 5,884 crore.

Modi will also inaugurate solar plants totaling 1,400 MW. These include the 925 MW Nokh Solar Park in Phalodi and 895 MW of decentralized solar plants under the PM-KUSUM-C scheme. Additionally, multiple regional irrigation projects, such as works at the Isarda dam and the Dholpur lift scheme, will be launched. Seven major road projects and a Rs 20,833 crore water resources project are also on the list.

He will flag off new Vande Bharat Express trains connecting Bikaner and Jodhpur to Delhi Cantt. Moreover, Modi will launch the Udaipur-Chandigarh Express. In addition, 15,000 youths will receive appointment letters as part of a government job drive.

State BJP leaders have called the Banswara nuclear project a landmark for Rajasthan, promising energy independence. They also predict tourism growth and job creation.

The visit comes amid political sparring. Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma is overseeing preparations, while former CM Ashok Gehlot urges Modi to address the slow progress in the 2022 Udaipur Kanhaiya Lal murder case. Gehlot also requests national monument status to be granted to Mangarh Dham.
