Premier Energies has signed a binding term sheet with RCT India, part of Germany’s RCT Group, to build a 12 GWh battery storage plant in Telangana.

The company disclosed the development to the BSE and NSE on 10 September, marking its first major move beyond solar manufacturing since it was founded three decades ago.

The proposed facility will have a total capacity of 12 GWh, built in phases. The first phase alone will account for 6 GWh, according to the regulatory filing.

This plant will be developed through Premier Battery Technologies, a subsidiary of Premier Energies.

Once operational, it is expected to cater to commercial, industrial and utility-scale customers, both in India and abroad.

The partners have positioned the facility as an export platform, aiming to serve international markets directly from India. Each partner is bringing something different to the table.

Premier Energies will contribute its manufacturing base and existing production experience, while RCT adds its global track record in energy storage projects, along with engineering and supply-chain expertise built over more than 10 GW of BESS installations worldwide, mostly in Europe.

Behind the deal lies a broader shift in India’s power sector. As solar and wind capacity keeps expanding, grid operators need reliable storage systems to manage the ups and downs in renewable power supply.

Both companies have pointed to this growing need as the core rationale for the venture. This move builds on Premier Energies’ recent expansion activity.

In July 2026, the company had inaugurated a 5.6 GW solar module manufacturing facility in Rangareddy, Telangana, featuring automated production lines and AI-based quality inspection systems.

The joint venture filing did not disclose financial details such as investment size, equity split between the partners, or a timeline for when the first phase will become operational.

For Premier Energies, the deal signals a broader ambition to move beyond solar cells and modules into other parts of the clean energy value chain, positioning the company across multiple segments rather than a single product line.
