White goods such as refrigerators, air conditioners and washing machines, will cost more now to consumers, as the manufacturers have decided to pass on the burden of higher input costs to consumers.
Prices of raw materials used for manufacturing white goods has increased by 30-50%. As a result of this, prices of electronic consumer durable is expected to go up by 3-5% in November.
There is 40% and 50% hike in the prices of steel and copper respectively and MDI a chemical used for creating foam in fridge, its price has increased by double.
As per Godrej Appliances business head Kamal Nandi,”These three account for almost 70% of input cost and hence there is a net impact of 5-6% on prices. However, we will absorb some and pass on the rest, that too probably in phases, since market sentiments are not very buoyant.”
