Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that US threats of tariffs against India and China are failing, and even Washington now sees that such pressure cannot work on two ancient civilisations.

Speaking on Russia’s Channel 1 TV programme *The Great Game*, Lavrov explained that telling India or China to stop actions the US dislikes under the threat of tariffs will not succeed. He pointed to how both New Delhi and Beijing have responded to these US demands.

Lavrov said these tariffs not only harm the economic well-being of India and China, making them look for new markets and energy sources and pay higher prices, but also face strong moral and political opposition.

Regarding new sanctions against Russia, he stated that they cause no real problems. Lavrov recalled that unprecedented sanctions were first imposed during Donald Trump’s presidency and later continued under Joe Biden, with sanctions replacing genuine diplomatic efforts and any search for compromise.
