Shyam Metalics touched a fresh high on the NSE but slipped lower on Monday, even as its June quarter volumes showed strong growth.
The Pig Iron business led the show. Sales volumes for the June quarter climbed 42.11% to 2,89,201 MT, while realisations improved 5.09% to Rs 38,800 per MT.
This came on the back of new blast furnace capacity, a 0.77 MTPA unit at Jamuria and a 0.45 MTPA furnace at Ramsarup, both commissioned over the past two years to help meet rising demand.
Pellet sales also had a strong quarter, rising 40.50% to 3,91,074 MT, though realisations here slipped 5.22% from the previous quarter to Rs 9,057 per MT.
The company’s value-added segments stood out too. Stainless steel volumes climbed 40.2% year-on-year, with realisations up 23.15%, even as quarterly volumes eased 14.84% from the March quarter.
Aluminium Foil had an even stronger run, with realisations surging 39.32% year-on-year to touch Rs 5,03,400 per MT.
Shyam Metalics also commissioned Phase II of its Colour Coated Steel Plant at Jamuria in April, adding 0.15 MTPA of capacity and taking the plant’s total capacity to 0.40 MTPA.
This helped push CR Coil and CR Sheet volumes up 53.46% year-on-year for the month of June.
Carbon Steel, which covers billets and long steel products, saw monthly volumes rise 16.53%, though the quarterly number slipped 11.02% from the previous quarter as demand softened somewhat.
At 13:15 pm, Shyam Metalics shares were trading at Rs 952.50 on the NSE, down 0.27% for the day, having pulled back from the morning’s high despite the healthy operational numbers.
