South Korea Bans Access to DeepSeek on Government Devices

South Korea
The two countries aim to finalise detailed investment plans by January 2029.

Due to security concerns, South Korea has blocked access to DeepSeek AI services on government devices.

The defence, foreign, and trade ministries have restricted access on government computers, with the defence ministry taking “necessary preemptive measures.”

A security review of DeepSeek is underway, but specific safety measures have not been confirmed.

The Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Energy has temporarily restricted access on computers with external connections.

Countries like Australia, Italy, and Ireland have also taken steps to block or investigate DeepSeek over data security and privacy concerns.

Japan bans its use on government devices handling sensitive information, while individual ministries decide on other devices.

Hundreds of private companies have blocked DeepSeek due to fears of data leaks to China.

Developed by a Chinese startup, DeepSeek competes with OpenAI’s ChatGPT.
