Stainless Steel Industry Demands Anti-Dumping Duties to Shield Local Players

Stainless Steel
India's stainless steel imports reached 1.73 million tonnes in FY25.

The Indian stainless steel industry is pushing for urgent action against cheap imports that threaten local manufacturers. The industry, represented by the Indian Stainless Steel Development Association (ISSDA), has filed a petition with the Directorate General of Trade Remedies (DGTR) seeking anti-dumping duties on stainless steel products imported from countries such as China, Vietnam, Indonesia, and South Korea.

Abhyuday Jindal, Managing Director of Jindal Stainless, stated that the petition was submitted in late June, and the industry is now awaiting the initiation of the DGTR’s investigation, which typically takes two to three months.

Jindal emphasised the urgent need for protective duties due to ongoing global trade uncertainties and the influx of low-quality, dumped steel imports, which are hurting Indian producers. With India’s stainless steel market growing rapidly, safeguarding local businesses has become critical.

According to market data, India’s stainless steel imports reached 1.73 million tonnes in FY25, with China, Indonesia, Vietnam, and South Korea as the main exporters. The industry hopes that the DGTR’s investigation will lead to measures that protect domestic players and support the sector’s growth.
