Starlink is moving closer to its long-awaited India debut, kicking off hiring and technical trials as it gears up for commercial launch. The satellite internet company has started recruitment for key finance and accounting roles in Bengaluru and begun technical and security demonstrations in Mumbai — a crucial step before receiving final regulatory clearance.

The two-day demonstration, which runs on 30th and 31st October, was conducted for law enforcement and telecom officials. It aims to prove Starlink’s compliance with India’s security and communication standards. These tests are part of the approval process under the Global Mobile Personal Communications by Satellite (GMPCS) framework. This framework regulates satellite-based internet providers in India.

Starlink, which operates a global constellation of over 7,500 satellites, is among a handful of firms authorised to offer satellite broadband services in India. Other companies include Reliance Jio-SES and Eutelsat OneWeb. Additionally, the company has applied to set up 9–10 gateway earth stations across cities like Mumbai, Noida, Chandigarh, Kolkata, and Lucknow. Notably, Mumbai will serve as the primary hub.

In line with its expansion, Starlink recently leased its first office space in Mumbai’s Chandivali area. The facility is a 1,294 sq. ft. space in the Boomerang commercial complex.

Job listings on SpaceX’s careers page include roles such as tax manager, senior treasury analyst, and accounting manager. The Bengaluru-based positions will focus on building Starlink’s accounting, compliance, and reporting systems for its India operations.

Starlink is expected to launch commercially in India by late 2025 or early 2026. This will occur once it completes its demonstrations and secures final approval from the Department of Telecommunications (DoT). The move marks a major step in bringing satellite-based broadband to one of the world’s largest and fastest-growing internet markets.
