Sun Pharma shares hit a day high of Rs 1,855 on NSE on 28 September, after it signed a global licensing deal for a cholesterol drug.
In an exchange filing, Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd said it has signed an exclusive licensing, commercialisation and manufacturing agreement with LIB Therapeutics Inc for lerodalcibep, a monthly injection that lowers LDL cholesterol, better known as bad cholesterol.
Sun Pharma gets the right to make and sell the drug in every market except the US and China. It will also handle regulatory approvals in countries where the drug has yet to be cleared.
LIB Therapeutics will receive an upfront payment, later milestone payments and royalties based on net sales. Other financial terms stay confidential.
Managing Director Kirti W Ganorkar said once-monthly dosing ‘simplifies treatment for patients and offers greater convenience’. He added that the deal strengthens the company’s cardiovascular portfolio worldwide.
The deal opens the door to a large and fast-growing market. Citing IQVIA data, Sun Pharma said PCSK9 inhibitors, a class of cholesterol-lowering drugs, brought in $3.7 billion in sales outside the US and China in the 12 months to the second quarter of 2026.
Europe alone made up $2.9 billion of that, and the segment has grown by about 38% a year over the past two years.
Lerodalcibep is a 300 mg injection given under the skin once a month. In Europe it sells as Lyrokaul, which received EU approval on 21 September for adults with high cholesterol and mixed dyslipidaemia.
There, patients can keep it at room temperature for up to six months once it leaves the fridge.
The drug is already on sale in the US. LIB Therapeutics launched it there as Lerochol on 11 May, after USFDA approval in December 2025, but the US falls outside this agreement.
At 9:48 am, shares of Sun Pharma were trading at Rs 1,846.30 on NSE, down 0.32% and below the day’s high.
The stock is about 9.8% off its 52-week high of Rs 2,046.90 hit on 31 July. It has lost 3.91% over the past month but remains up 7.19% so far this year.
