As AI enters a decisive phase, Sundar Pichai has placed the US-India partnership at the centre of its future.
Speaking on 20th February at the India AI Impact Summit, the Alphabet and Google CEO said both nations will play a defining role in shaping AI’s next phase. He called this moment one of “hyper-progress.” However, he warned that strong collaboration between governments and companies is essential to ensure AI benefits everyone.
Pichai announced the India-America Connect initiative, including new subsea cables linking the US, India and the southern hemisphere. These will strengthen digital trade and secure data flows. He added that India is poised for an “extraordinary AI trajectory,” with Google committing across products and infrastructure.
The company has contributed 22 Gemma models to AIKosh and is supporting real-world use cases such as monsoon forecasts, diabetic retinopathy screening and multilingual access. Pichai also revealed plans to invest about $15 billion between 2026 and 2030 to build Google’s first AI Hub in India. This investment will cover data centres, AI infrastructure and clean energy.
He stressed that AI must be pursued both boldly and responsibly, calling it a defining moment for global cooperation.
