On October 13, Supernova, a startup that provides interactive live quizzes for kids on CBSE topics, said it had raised $1.1 million in funding led by Lumikai, a venture capital firm focused on gaming and interactive media.

Angel investors, including Kae Capital, All-in Capital, Goodwater Capital and Swiggy co-founders Nandan Reddy and Phani Kishan, PayU founder Nitin Gupta, former Gaana CEO Prashan Aggarwal and Moonfrog Labs founder Tanay Tayal also participated in the round financing.

Initiated by Maharishi RB, Anirudh Coontoor and Nawin Krishna, Supernova’s live quizzes allow students to learn and practice math skills in daily 30-minute lessons. These skills are based on the CBSE curriculum in grades 1-8.

The sessions are divided into three parts – an initial learning period where tutors teach children math skills via Zoom, after which children can practice the concept on the Supernova platform and then take a live quiz.

The startup plans to use the funds raised to develop further and expand its product to include a multiplayer mode and strengthen its leadership team and initiatives to drive product-driven user acquisition over the next 18 months.
