Suzlon and Grasim Partner to Develop Recyclable Wind Turbine Blades

Suzlon Energy Ltd
The companies signed a MoU at the Bharat Renewable Energy Summit and Expo 2026.

Shares of Suzlon Energy Ltd gained 3% on 4 November after the company partnered with Grasim Industries and its renewable energy subsidiary, Aditya Birla Renewables, to develop and commercialise wind turbines with recyclable blades.

The companies signed a memorandum of understanding at the Bharat Renewable Energy Summit and Expo 2026. The partnership aims to address a major environmental challenge in the wind energy industry, as conventional turbine blades are difficult to recycle after reaching the end of their operating life.

Under the agreement, Suzlon will integrate Grasim’s Recyclamine technology into the manufacturing of wind turbine blades. The technology uses a specialised epoxy material that can be chemically recycled, allowing valuable composite materials to be recovered and reused.

Aditya Birla Renewables will install a wind turbine fitted with these recyclable blades at one of its project sites. This will help the companies test the technology under actual operating conditions and assess its commercial viability.

The partners will also explore opportunities to expand the technology across India and other mutually agreed international markets.

Most wind turbine blades are made from composite materials that are difficult to process once they are no longer in use. As wind energy capacity grows, managing these materials at the end of their life is becoming an important challenge for the renewable energy industry.

The partnership could help reduce waste by making it easier to recover and reuse materials from old turbine blades.

Suzlon has also said it is working towards making all its future wind turbines recyclable within the next three to four years.

The agreement marks an important step towards making wind energy infrastructure more sustainable. However, the success of the initiative will depend on the performance of the technology and its ability to be commercially scaled.

If successful, the partnership could create new opportunities for recyclable wind technology in India and global markets.

At 1:12 pm, the shares of Suzlon Energy were trading 3.38% higher at Rs 36.96 on NSE.
