Swan Defence and Heavy Industries hit a new 52-week high on Thursday after winning a Rs 251-750 crore export order from Svitzer for four tugs.
The order covers four TRAnsverse 3200 harbour tugs, a design jointly developed by naval architects Robert Allan Ltd and Svitzer.
Swan Defence will build the vessels at its shipyard in Pipavav, Gujarat. Deliveries begin in early 2028. The company said it beat out several global shipyards to land the contract.
In plain terms, these tugs help guide large ships safely in and out of busy harbours. Each one can generate 80 tonnes of pulling force and is said to be up to 15% more fuel efficient than older tugboats.
The vessels will also run on biofuel, carry firefighting equipment, and meet international emission norms.
Rear Admiral Vipin Kumar Saxena (Retd.), CEO of Swan Defence, called the win proof of the company’s engineering strength in high-specification shipbuilding.
He also pointed out that this is the company’s fourth export order in a row, which he reads as growing trust from overseas clients.
Svitzer, a Copenhagen-based company with a global fleet of over 500 ships, stated that the procurement aligns with its long-term strategy to update its fleet.
Market feeds including Groww put the deal’s value between Rs 251 crore and Rs 750 crore, though the exact figure hasn’t been officially confirmed by either company.
As of 10:18 am on Thursday, Swan Defence shares were trading at Rs 2,594.90 on the NSE, up 1.70% or Rs 43.40, against Wednesday’s close of Rs 2,551.50.
The stock opened at Rs 2,600 and briefly touched Rs 2,618. That’s a fresh 52-week high. Shares have since eased slightly but remain firmly in the green, up more than 78% since the start of the year.
