Swedish Defence Manufacturer Saab to Establish New Facility in India

The new facility would support the production of the Carl-Gustaf M4.

Saab, the Swedish defence products firm, would establish a facility to manufacture its Carl-Gustaf M4 weapons system in India. As per the media reports, the company seeks to ramp up production. The Carl-Gustaf M4 is a recoilless rifle ordered by the Indian armed forces.

The company’s senior Vice President, Gorgen Johansson, said the facility would begin production in 2024. However, Johansson refused to provide detail on the investment the company will likely make in the facility. The new facility would support the production of the Carl-Gustaf M4. It would also provide components for users of the system around the world. There has been an increased interest in the weapon system since it can be used against tanks.
Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, which the former calls a ‘special military operation’, has prompted many countries, including Saab’s home market Sweden, to raise defence budgets.

Founded by Marcus Wallenberg Jr, Axel Wenner-Gren, and Sven Gustaf Wingqvist in 1937, Saab AB is a Swedish aerospace and defence company. Headquartered in Stockholm, Saab has manufactured Saab 340, Saab 2000, JAS 39 Gripen, STRIX, Saab 105, RBS missiles etc. Earlier this year, Saab said it would boost capacity to meet rising demand.
