Tamil Nadu CM Vijay’s UK visit secured Rs 15,300 crore in investments, expected to create over 10,000 jobs in the state.
This visit is part of a bigger plan. Tamil Nadu wants to grow into a 1.5 trillion dollar economy by 2036, and building stronger trade ties with global investors is a key part of that strategy.
During his stay in London, CM Vijay met India’s High Commissioner to the UK, Kumaran Periasamy, on 12 September.
The two discussed opportunities arising from the India-UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement, often referred to as CETA.
Two days later, on 14 September, several companies signed formal agreements with the state.
These deals span sectors like auto components, research and development, renewable energy, power grid equipment, and global capability centres, commonly known as GCCs.
Samvardhana Motherson International, working with European and UK partners, has committed the largest chunk at Rs 11,000 crore.
This investment covers design, engineering, manufacturing, logistics and assembly work, and is expected to create 7,000 jobs.
Sweden based Sigma Technology Group, through its arm Sriya Solutions, plans to expand global capability centres in Tiruchirappalli and Chennai, adding 600 jobs focused on embedded systems and industrial digitalisation.
Ernst & Young has also signed on to set up a Rs 1,000 crore centre in Chennai’s Mount Poonamallee corridor, expected to bring over 2,000 jobs.
Separately, UK based Wilson Power Solutions will invest Rs 300 crore in Tiruvallur district to manufacture transformers, creating around 400 jobs.
Beyond the investment talks, CM Vijay also visited the Silverstone Circuit as part of his earlier announcement to build a Motor Sports City in Tamil Nadu.
He toured the race control room, track and safety systems, and flagged off the 2026 Michelin Le Mans Cup, an event actor and racer Ajith Kumar took part in.
