Tata Communications shares hit a day’s high of ₹1,783.80 on the NSE on Tuesday, after unveiling a new AI platform for SMBs with TTBS.
The tie up is with Tata Tele Business Services, a sister company under the Tata Group. Together, the two firms plan to roll out a unified AI platform built specifically for smaller businesses, the kind that usually can’t afford or manage complex enterprise tech on their own.
At the centre of the offering are AI powered voice agents. These are designed to handle everyday tasks like answering customer questions, booking and rescheduling appointments, taking orders, and providing round the clock support, all through a dedicated phone number tied to the business.
Under the hood, TTBS introduces the voice network and its extensive reach into the SMB market across more than 60 locations, while Tata Communications contributes its conversational AI system, Commotion, hosted on its own cloud infrastructure.
The companies say the setup is built with data sovereignty in mind, meaning information stays hosted within India. Leadership from both sides framed this as a way to unlock a market that has largely been left out of India’s AI wave so far.
The country has over 60 million small and medium businesses, and most are still early in adopting any kind of AI tooling.
Early use cases being discussed include transport companies handling ticket bookings and healthcare providers scheduling appointments or sharing test results through the same voice agents.
This move builds on a strong quarter for Tata Communications, which recently reported revenue growth of over 10% year on year, with its digital services business growing even faster.
On Tuesday, Tata Communications closed at ₹1,764.50 on the NSE, up 2% for the day.
