Tata Consultancy Services Shares Gain 1% on Bagging Order Worth Rs 2,903 Crore

The order covers the planning, engineering, supply, installation, testing, commissioning, and annual maintenance of a 4G mobile network.

Shares of Tata Consultancy Services Ltd (TCS) were trading in the green and 1% higher on 21 May after India’s largest technology services provider, has obtained an add-on Advance Purchase Order (APO) worth Rs 2,903.22 crore from state-owned Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) for its 4G mobile network.

The order covers the planning, engineering, supply, installation, testing, commissioning, and annual maintenance of a 4G mobile network at 18,685 sites across the country, TCS said in a stock exchange filing.

This large-scale initiative represents a significant expansion of BSNL’s 4G rollout efforts, with TCS playing an important role in its implementation.

The company announced that formal purchase orders will be issued by BSNL in due course, subject to the fulfilment of various conditions and documentation outlined in the agreement. This latest order adds to TCS’s existing collaboration with BSNL to modernise the state-run telecom operator’s mobile infrastructure.

TCS CFO Samir Seksaria stated that 70% of the work on the BSNL order has been done and that this order will run out between the fourth quarter of fiscal year 2025 and the first quarter of fiscal year 2026.

Soon after TCS’ announcement, Tejas Networks, a Tata Group firm, informed the exchanges that it had acquired a work order from TCS to supply goods and services for BSNL’s 4G project.

Tejas expects to supply TCS with Radio Access Network (RAN) and related equipment for around Rs 1,525.53 crore (excluding taxes). Tejas Networks indicated that detailed Purchase Orders will be issued by TCS in due course, subject to the completion of relevant criteria and documentation.

In May, BSNL awarded an Advance Purchase Order of over Rs 15,000 crore to a consortium led by TCS for the statewide 4G network expansion.

Tejas Networks Ltd. and ITI Ltd., both members of the consortium, received APOs for the project. Tejas Networks will supply and service BSNL’s Radio Access Network (RAN) equipment.

In April, BSNL granted TCS a contract for Rs 550 crore to build 6,000 4G stations across the country.

According to a declaration made by telecom minister Ashwini Vaishnaw in the Lok Sabha, BSNL plans to deploy around 1.12 lakh 4G sites as part of its pan-India service rollout.

At 12:06 pm, the shares of TCS were trading 0.83% higher at Rs 3,527.30 on NSE.
