Congratulations to the Tata team for taking over Wistron operations.”

This will make Tata India’s first homegrown iPhone maker after the Wistron Corporation agreed to sell a plant in the southern part of the country.

In a meeting held today by Wistron, its board approved the sale of Wistron InfoComm Manufacturing Private Limited to Tata for a total consideration of $125 million.

Rajeev Chandrasekhar added, “Ministry of Electronics & IT stands fully in support in growth of Global Indian Electronics companies that will in turn support global Electronic brands that want to make India their trusted manufacturing & talent partner and to realise PMs goal of making India a global electronics power.”

Tata Group has been in talks for more than a year for the takeover of the plant in an attempts to forge closer ties with Apple in India.

The company has also announced that it will launch 100 Apple-authorised stores in India.
