Tata Consultancy Services has been picked by German wholesaler Metro AG to unify its scattered, country-by-country IT systems into one central setup.
The partnership was announced on 3 September 2026. Metro AG, which runs wholesale and delivery operations across more than 30 countries, wants to move away from running separate IT systems in each market and instead bring everything under one centrally managed structure.
TCS will lead this shift. The idea is to consolidate Metro’s various country-specific IT applications and rebuild them using AI-based tools, cutting down on the complexity that comes with running different systems in different regions.
The work will span key markets across Europe and Asia. Khaled Bagban, Chief Information Officer at Metro AG, said the company needs an IT setup that keeps strong local relevance while still allowing clear central control.
He added that Metro was looking for a partner who understands not just the technology but how to turn it into real business value for customers and operations.
This isn’t TCS’s first big move in Europe this year. In August 2026, the company signed a five-year deal with Porsche AG to set up a dedicated AI Mobility Centre and roll out AI services across Porsche’s operations.
TCS has been present in Europe for over 45 years, with close to 15,000 employees in the region and a presence in Germany going back to 1991.
On the financial side, TCS posted consolidated revenue of βΉ72,275 crore in the first quarter of FY2027, up 13.9% from the same period last year. The company’s total contract value for the quarter stood at $9.5 billion.
Metro AG, for its part, reported sales of β¬32.4 billion in its 2024-25 financial year and serves around 15 million customers through its wholesale network.
