TCS has signed a long-term deal to lead an AI-driven technology overhaul for Germany’s Aareal Bank, a property finance specialist.

The agreement covers pretty much the entire technology backbone of the bank. TCS will handle data centre operations, cloud platforms, workplace services, cybersecurity and infrastructure management, all under one long-term arrangement.

Aareal Bank, headquartered in Wiesbaden, runs its business through two main segments, structured property financing and banking and digital solutions.

What makes this deal different from a regular IT outsourcing contract is the approach. TCS plans to run this using an AI-led, cloud-first model, leaning on automation to simplify how the bank’s systems operate day to day.

The idea is to make the bank’s technology setup more secure, more responsive to regulatory changes, and easier to scale as the business grows.

Aareal Bank’s CEO, Dr Christian Ricken, said a modern technology platform is central to executing the bank’s strategy, and that this partnership gives the bank a stronger technical foundation for the next stage of its transformation.

TCS CEO and MD K Krithivasan said AI-powered operations are becoming essential for financial institutions that want to stay resilient and secure while continuing to innovate.

TCS isn’t new to the German market. The company has worked with European clients for over 45 years and has been present in Germany specifically since 1991, employing close to 15,000 people across the region through multiple local offices.

This deal comes at a busy time for TCS. Earlier this quarter, on 24 August, the company signed a $1.45 billion, five-year IT modernisation contract with Porsche AG and also acquired Porsche’s IT consulting arm, MHP, for $373 million.

More recently, on 8 September, TCS won a Rs 122.6 crore contract to build the next phase of Odisha’s State Workflow Automation System, and on 15 September, it partnered with the Dubai Gold and Commodities Exchange to upgrade its derivatives market infrastructure.
