TikTok Takes Down Viral Graphic Clip-on Its Platform

From a statement made on Monday, the famous short-video app was removing a suicide clip that was trending and going viral on the platform. This followed by precautionary actions such as banning accounts that were continuously attempting to upload the clip.

As such the company has not gone to detail regarding the specifications, while two apparent sources based on media reports described that videos had been spreading on Tiktok since Sunday night.

Tiktok addressed the matter on Twitter saying, “We are aware that clips of a suicide that was live-streamed on Facebook have recently circulated on other platforms, including TikTok. Our systems have been automatically detecting and flagging these clips for violating our Community Guidelines.”

There was no immediate response made by Tiktok to a Reuters request in mentioning the video clip that had been taken down.

Facebook did not immediately respond to a request for comment. TikTok, whose China-based owner ByteDance has been ordered by President Donald Trump to sell its US operations, has been criticised for its content moderation policy in the past, especially on circulation of graphic content.

The company rolled out a new content moderation infrastructure in December under which it labelled the videos that were removed by the company with the policy category they violated, it said in its transparency report published in July.
