To Expand its Portfolio and Network, BYD India Targets 15,000 EV Sales in 2023

Reportedly, pure-play electric car maker BYD India Private Ltd aims to sell 15,000 units next year and is launching a new model, increasing its distribution network and expanding production capacity if required, said a senior official.


BYD India is a wholly owned subsidiary of Warren Buffet’s Berkshire Hathaway-funded Chinese company BYD Auto. Presently, BYD has seven showrooms in the country, and by the end of this year, the company expects to have 23 showrooms.


As per the data available on the Vahan portal, a total of 305 vehicles have been registered in 2022, and till last month it was 63 units. Although the company claims to have delivered about 530 units, 83 of them were sold to dealers, and the remaining have been sold to buyers by the company.


Recently, BYD Auto reported USD 21.7 billion in revenue, nearly 66 per cent up from last year. BYD has overtaken Tesla in the first half of 2022. Currently, BYD has two plants operating in India, one for manufacturing electronic items and the other for car making- involving a cumulative investment of about USD150 million.
