Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan Set to Sign Joint Defence Pact

Turkey
The agreement is expected to strengthen military coordination between the three countries.

Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan are set to sign a joint defence agreement, marking a major development in regional security cooperation as tensions surrounding the Iran war continue to affect the Middle East.

The agreement is expected to strengthen military coordination between the three countries, although the exact commitments under the pact have not yet been made public.

The deal is expected to be formalised in Saudi Arabia, with senior leaders and military officials from all three countries involved. The timing is significant as regional instability has increased pressure on Gulf countries to strengthen their own security arrangements.

Saudi Arabia already has a Strategic Mutual Defence Agreement with Pakistan, signed in 2025. The new arrangement would bring Turkey into a broader framework of defence cooperation and build on military ties that the three countries have developed over recent years.

For Saudi Arabia, stronger partnerships could provide additional security support at a time when the kingdom has faced threats linked to the wider regional conflict. Pakistan, meanwhile, has maintained close defence relations with Riyadh and has previously deployed military assets to Saudi Arabia under its bilateral agreement.

Turkey brings significant military capabilities as a NATO member, while Pakistan adds extensive military experience and is the world’s only nuclear-armed Muslim-majority country. The combination could give the three nations greater strategic weight in the region.

The agreement could also have wider geopolitical implications. It comes as traditional security arrangements in the Middle East face fresh questions and countries increasingly seek stronger regional partnerships rather than depending entirely on outside powers.

However, it remains unclear whether the pact will involve automatic military assistance in the event of an attack or focus mainly on coordination, training and defence cooperation.

The development will be closely watched by global markets and governments, particularly because any further escalation in the region could affect oil supplies, shipping routes and energy prices.
