India is facing scrutiny after Ukraine raised concerns about Indian-made or assembled electronic parts. These parts were found in Iranian drones used by Russia in the war. Ukrainian authorities flagged the issue with New Delhi through formal diplomatic channels. They also discussed it with the European Union during recent meetings.
The components were identified in Iran’s Shahed 136 drones, which Russia has been using extensively due to their low cost. Iran initially supplied Russia with 2,000 fully assembled drones before establishing its assembly line.
Among the parts flagged were Vishay Intertechnology’s “bridge rectifier E300359,” which was assembled in India. This component was used in the drone’s voltage regulator. Another part flagged was Aura Semiconductor’s AU5426A chip, deployed in its jammer-proof navigation antenna.
India’s Ministry of External Affairs emphasised that all dual-use exports undergo rigorous due diligence and comply with global non-proliferation regulations. Aura Semiconductor expressed concern over unauthorised third-party use of its components, calling the parts “plug-and-play,” which makes end-user tracking difficult.
Ukraine has also reported finding U.S. and Chinese-made components in similar drones and weapons used by Russia.
