Ukraine, Russia Hold Peace Talks in Turkey Amid Ongoing Strikes, Low Hopes

Ukraine-Russia Peace Talks
Both sides remain far apart on key terms for ending the three-year war.

Ukraine and Russia met in Turkey on 2nd June for a second round of peace talks in just over two weeks, but expectations for progress remain low.

Defence Minister Rustem Umerov led the Ukrainian team; Vladimir Medinsky, an aide to President Putin, led the Russian delegation.

Talks were held in Istanbul, overseen by Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and officials from the Turkish intelligence agency.

Conflicting reports emerged over the meeting time, with Ukrainian and Turkish sides offering different start times.

Both sides remain far apart on key terms for ending the three-year war as heavy fighting and deep strikes continue.

Ukraine claimed a drone strike destroyed over 40 Russian planes; Russia said it downed 162 Ukrainian drones overnight.

Russia launched 80 drones overnight; Ukraine’s air defenses intercepted 52 of them.

On Monday morning, two Russian ballistic missiles hit Kharkiv — one near a school and one near an apartment building. No casualties were reported.
