Ukrainian President Zelensky to Address G7 Leaders

Amid the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will address G7 leaders on Monday (local time), urging Western countries to speed up sanctions on Russia.

CNN reports that President Joe Biden and fellow world leaders stranded in the Bavarian Alps will hear from President Zelensky on Monday as they consider the next stage of Russia’s unprovoked war. The conflict has been at the centre of the G7 summit of a century-old mountainside castle in Germany’s Bavaria region.

Leaders have decided to take new measures to isolate the Russian economy, including a ban on new imports of Russian gold, and pledged support for Zelensky as his country suffers setbacks in the east.

Meanwhile, Zelensky is also scheduled to speak at a NATO summit in Madrid this week and urged the West to speed up sanctions on Russia and use heavy artillery to repel Russian invaders. Russia was excluded from the then G8 after annexing the Ukrainian territory of Crimea in 2014.
