UltraTech Cement Plans 600+ Electric Truck Fleet; Shares Down

UltraTech Cement
The move is aimed at reducing diesel use and cutting emissions from the company’s logistics operations.

UltraTech Cement shares were trading almost 2% lower on 2 September after the company announced plans to scale up its supply chain electrification with more than 600 heavy-duty electric trucks by December 2026.

The move is aimed at reducing diesel use and cutting emissions from the company’s logistics operations. Under the plan, the electric trucks will transport around 5 million metric tonnes of clinker and other key materials every year. UltraTech expects the shift to result in a net annual reduction of more than 1.17 lakh tonnes of CO₂ emissions, equivalent to replacing nearly 39 million litres of diesel consumption each year.

To support the transition, the cement maker has signed service contracts with electric prime-mover manufacturers and logistics partners including Tata Motors, Ashok Leyland, IPLTech, Energy in Motion and Sany.

The trucks will be deployed across seven states, including Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra and Odisha. They will be used for activities ranging from mine-to-plant transportation to moving clinker between manufacturing facilities.

UltraTech has been gradually expanding its green logistics operations. The company began using CNG trucks in 2021 and introduced heavy-duty electric trucks in 2024. In June this year, it also started deploying 45 electric trucks with Energy in Motion for clinker transportation between its Kotputli Cement Works in Rajasthan and facilities in the Delhi-NCR region.

The latest initiative strengthens UltraTech’s focus on reducing emissions across its supply chain and supporting its longer-term Net Zero targets.

At 11:20 am, the shares of UltraTech Cement were trading 1.82% lower at Rs 11,192 on NSE.
