The U.S. Postal Service (USPS) has temporarily suspended accepting inbound parcels from China and Hong Kong Posts, effective 4th February.
However, letters and ‘flats’ remain unaffected by the suspension.
USPS has not clarified whether this decision is linked to former President Donald Trump’s trade policy move to end ‘de minimis’ shipments from China and other countries.
The policy includes a 10% tariff on Chinese imports and 25% tariffs on goods from Canada and Mexico, although these tariffs have been temporarily paused for a month.
A U.S. congressional committee on China highlighted in a June 2023 report that nearly half of all ‘de minimis’ packages originate from China.
