Shares of VA Tech Wabag surged on Wednesday, hitting a day high of Rs 2,140 after the company won a large water order in Vienna, Austria.
The order comes from the City of Vienna’s Municipal Department MA 31, known as Wiener Wasser. WABAG classifies international orders worth $30 million to $75 million as ‘large’.
Going by that scale, the contract is estimated between Rs 250 crore and Rs 600 crore. The project involves expanding the Donauinsel Water Works.
VA Tech Wabag will handle the entire technology package for the new facility, covering process engineering, electrical work, instrumentation and control, and building services.
That is a fairly wide scope for one contract. Once built, the plant will use what is called a multi-barrier treatment process.
In simple terms, water will pass through several stages, including oxidation, filtration and UV disinfection, before it is safe enough to enter Vienna’s drinking water network.
The facility is designed to treat up to 1,000 litres of water every second, or roughly 86 million litres a day. It is part of the city’s long-term Wiener Wasser 2050 plan and is expected to be completed and commissioned by 2030.
Mahmut Gedek, CEO of WABAG’s Europe cluster, called it ‘a landmark project for Vienna’s long-term drinking water supply’. This is not the company’s first major order this year.
In April 2026, WABAG signed a strategic partnership for a large desalination plant in the MENA region. By May, its total order book had crossed Rs 12,000 crore, and the firm has stayed debt free for four straight quarters now.
At 10:08 am on Wednesday, shares of the water treatment firm were trading at Rs 2,078.80 on the NSE, up 3.47% for the day.
It’s been a sharp run lately, with the stock up over 33% in the past month and close to 58% since the start of the year.
