Vedanta to Get Refund of Rs 190 Crore with Interest from the Income Tax Department

he company's shareholders will receive 1 share of each newly listed entity for 1 share held in Vedanta.

The Income Tax department will refund Rs 190 crore with interest to Vedanta for the assessment year 2021-22.

The decision was made after a hearing at the Delhi High Court bench that was led by Rajiv Shakdher, where counsel Abhishek Maratha was representing the revenue department, had confirmed that the refund of Rs 190 crore along with interest would be reimbursed to billionaire Anil Agarwal-controlled mining group Vedanta.

The court has scheduled the matter of compliance with the order on 30 October.

In August, the company filed a petition in the high court, which claimed that the Income Tax department had not refunded an amount more than Rs 190.02 crore for the assessment year 2021 – 2022.

The company had requested the court to instruct the Income Tax department to use this refund against an outstanding demand that was raised by the department for the assessment year 2011-12.

The company was represented by senior counsel Ajay Vohra.

The revenue department has given an assurance to the bench that they would review the matter pertaining to whether this amount, along with relevant interest, should be refunded to the company without any adjustments.
