Vodafone Idea Drops Faster Data Speed Under RedX Plan

According to the website of Vodafone Idea Ltd., the company has dropped its claim of 50 per cent faster data speed offering under the RedX premium plan for its higher-paying postpaid customers. The telecom operator is yet to submit its revised plan to the telecom regulator, which is investigating the scheme on the grounds of violation of the service norms.

“We (the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India) have not received any modified plan as of yet. The details of this plan or any plan can be submitted to us within seven days of the launch or modification,” a senior government official said.

The plan continues to offer “priority help through our premium customer service” among other services but does not mention the priority data speed, according to its website. At the time of launch in November 2019, the plan was priced Rs 999 which hiked to Rs 1,099 in May.

Dropping 50 per cent faster data speed claims supports Trai’s and even its rival Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd., which also viewed that premium plan of VI will affect internet services of those who are not a part of the priority circle.

In July, the telecom regulator had asked Vodafone Idea to not onboard new customers. Then, Vodafone Idea dragged the new onboarding matter to the Telecom Disputes Settlement and Appellate Tribunal (TDSAT), and the court allowed the operator for signing up new customers under the plan and directed Trai for continuing its probe. Yet, The TDSAT has to give its final verdict in the matter.
