The government extended the deadline of the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA) registration of NGOs till March 31, 2022. The home ministry has made valid FCRA registration certificates a must for NGOs to receive and utilise contributions from abroad. This is the 4th time that the government has extended NGOs after passing the FCRA Amendment Act in September 2020.

It said NGOs whose FCRA registration certificates are expiring “between September 29, 2020, and March 31, 2022, and have applied for renewal before the expiry of the certificates according to Rule 12 of the Foreign Contribution Regulation Rules, 2011, are qualified for the benefits,” the order said.

“All FCRA-registered associations must know that in case of rejection of the application for renewal of a certificate of registration, the validity of the certificate will be considered expired on the date of the refusal of the application, and the association will not be eligible either to receive or utilise any foreign contribution,” the order added.
