Snapchat Introduces New Safety Features for Teens

Snapchat has introduced new safety features for teens that limits the mutual friend suggestions that they can share with a certain number of common friends. This will apply to 13 to 17 years old. Snapchat has not specified the number of mutual friends needed for users to show in their suggestions.

Snapchat has been battling a drug problem on its platform and trying to stop the spread of fentanyl and other drugs-related content. “Our position on this has always been clear; we have zero tolerance for drug dealing on Snapchat,” the company said in a blog post. “We are trying our best to keep our community safe on Snapchat and have made several operational improvements in the last year toward our goal of removing drug dealers from our platform,” the blog post said.

Snapchat also announced that it would be partnering with Community Anti-Drug Coalitions of America and Truth Initiative to give in-app resources on Snapchat’s Heads Up portal. The platform has increased its detection rates for drug content by 50 per cent compared to last year, and 88 per cent of drug-related content is now automatically detected by the company’s machine learning and AI algorithms and further removed from the platform.
