Indian mills have signed agreements to export 4.6 million tonnes of sugar in the marketing year 2021-22 without government subsidies, the All India Sugar Trade Association (AISTA) said. The exports will allow the world’s second-biggest sugar producer to cut supplies, though it can weigh global prices.

Sugar mills have already shipped over 3.7 million tonnes of sugar since the start of the marketing year on October 1, but in the last few weeks, they have struggled to deliver on time outstanding the lack of railway freight trains, AISTA added.
