Spotify announced on Friday that it will suspend its streaming service in Russia in response to the country’s new media law. The platform also closed its office in Russia earlier this month in response to Moscow’s unprovoked attack on Ukraine.

“Spotify believes that it’s important to try to keep our service operational in Russia to provide trusted, independent news and information in the region. Unfortunately, recently passed law has restricted access to information, destroying free expression, and criminalizing certain types of news puts the safety of Spotify’s employees and the possibility of our listeners at a risk,β Spotify said in a statement.
