AMD Announces 6nm Ryzen Pro 6000 Processors for Business Laptops

American semiconductor maker AMD has announced its lineup of Ryzen Pro 6000 processors for high-end business laptops. The series is based on AMD’s Zen 3+ architecture and uses the 6nm node. The company says the new series is 30 per cent faster than the Pro 5000 series and works with AMD’s RDNA 2 graphics.

There are eight processors in the series, 3 of which contain six cores, and the remaining 5 have eight seats. There are two U-series processors and six H-series chips. AMD says the U-series Ryzen 5 Pro 6650U is 1.1 times faster in performance than the 5000-series 5850U processors. At 28W, it’s 1.3 times more powerful than its predecessor, and it comes with a better GPU chip that’s also 2.1 times more powerful.

AMD compared the performance of the top-of-the-line Ryzen 7 Pro 6860Z (the exclusive chip to the Lenovo ThinkPad Z13) to Intel’s Core i7-1260P and said Ryzen was 25 per cent faster in the Cinebench multithreaded test and 50 per cent faster in Passmark 10 and overall graphics scores higher in 3DMark Time Spy.

The company also claims impressive battery life from the new chip, with 29 hours of video playback and a brightness setting of 150 nits. The new chips will debut in business laptops from Lenovo, HP, and others in the second quarter.
