Centre Approves Long-Term Visas for 308 Pakistani Nationals

The government has approved long-term visas (LTV) for 308 Pakistan nationals desiring refuge in India due thttps://www.equitypandit.com/union-ministry-declares-new-category-of-visa-for-afghans/o religious abuse. Around 7,000 Pakistani residents have filed before the Union Home Ministry for Indian citizenship. While citizenship is given after specified years of residency, under the Citizenship Act, 1955, LTVs can be given an immediate stay to those with valid passports for five years.


According to the Home Ministry, 308 Pakistani nationals have been permitted Indian citizenship. In 2019, Parliament had passed the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), which allowed granting citizenship to members of six minority communities from Afghanistan, Pakistan and Bangladesh. Home Ministry officials have said that out of 8,300 applications, around 3,150 members of the minority communities from Afghanistan, Pakistan and Bangladesh have been issued Indian citizenship in the last four years.
