Edge Mastercard to Allow Crypto Payments

On Wednesday, Self-custodial exchange Edge announced the launch of the Edge Mastercard, which enables cryptocurrency holders to use digital currencies such as Bitcoin, Bitcoin Cash, Dogecoin, Litecoin and Dash through its app.

Edge users can sell their cryptocurrency to the card to add funds to the app, while merchants receive funds in US dollars. Users register their cards in the Edge app and start spending without adding personal information or paying anything.

Powered by fintech and savings platform Ionia, the card connects to mobile payment services Apple Pay, Samsung Pay or Google Pay. The card will allow spending at more than 10 million merchants in the US at its initial launch, allowing users to spend up to $1,000 per day.

Edge co-founder Paul Puey said: “Without revealing any personal information, and without paying the usual fees or delaying top-ups, the Edge Mastercard is a real breakthrough in using crypto for everyday payments.”

Edge uses official spot exchange rates provided by platforms such as the digital asset price tracking website Coinmarketcap without any deposit required.
