According to regulatory filings, Tesla boss Elon Musk has sold about $4 billion worth of shares in the electric car maker. According to SEC filings, about 4.4 million shares were traded on Tuesday and Wednesday. The Tesla CEO said there are no further sales planned. “No further TSLA sales planned after today,” Musk tweeted. Musk’s initial purchase of a 9 per cent stake in Twitter is under investigation by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the report said.

Analysts suspect Musk may need to sell some of his stake in Twitter to pay for his personally guaranteed $21 billion stakes in the deal. Elon Musk and Twitter Inc. struck a deal on April 25, with the world’s richest man buying the social networking platform for $44 billion.

According to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, Musk’s real-time net worth is $252 billion. However, according to Bloomberg estimates, he has only about $3 billion in cash and some liquid assets. Musk owns about 17 per cent of Tesla, the world’s most valuable automaker. He owns about 54 per cent of SpaceX on trust.
